Letter to Jacoby Cureton

Dear Coby,

Wasup homie? It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 years since you passed. You been on my mind a little bit lately. Part of this is because Saturday is Monroe Highs graduation for the class of 2011. You would’ve been right there with them walking across the stage. Grabbing the diploma and shaking the hand of Coach Sowell. Damn you would’ve been 18. A grown man. Ryan wouldn’t have known what to do with you lol. I find myself thinking on all our memories, the times we chilled shooting ball. The times we played video games. The times we aggravated my sister. I’d give anything to have the hands of time rewind. To say I miss you is an understatement. I still remember that day. The cop cars. The talk with my dad. The call with Justin. I still talk to your dad brah. Every time I walk past that house a memory comes of you. You made a major impact on my life. I just wish I could turn the clock back, because if I knew what I know now I maybe could have prevented this. Everything happens for a reason though right? I still got the articles, the t-shirt, and your obituary. I just wish i could see you walk across that stage Saturday. Though I will be rejoicing amongst your peers who graduated, there still will be some sorrow in my heart. I love you brah. Save me a spot in heaven.

Sincerely,

Your big homie forever, Eric
